Welcome to Nativity of Our Savior music class!

Music is the language of the soul!  All Nativity School students attend music class for 30 minutes, twice per week.  During our time together, elementary students learn to understand elements of music such as melody, rhythm, tempo, texture, tone color, and dynamics through singing, dancing, and listening.  They also learn to relate music to history and culture, as well as to the other arts.  Don’t forget about learning to play the Recorder in 4^th Grade!

Starting in 6^th Grade, the focus of our lessons shifts to music appreciation and composition.  Students

learn to listen for the fundamentals they’ve focused on during the past 5 years and put those fundamentals into practice. 

7^th Graders travel through music history and 8^th Graders go on to run their own recording company!

We have two all-school music programs during the school year.  The first is our annual Advent Program in early December, celebrating the coming of our Lord, Jesus Christ.  The second is our annual Grandparent’s Day program in the Spring, this year coinciding with “Music in Our School s Month,” sponsored by the Music Educator’s National Conference in March 2009.  We also have a Variety Show in the Spring which showcases our students talents in a fun and non-pressure setting.
